Study on the Cellular Immunity and Alpha-Fetoprotein of the Patients with Hepatoma

Abstract
DNCB, PPD skin tests, peripheral blood lymphocytes, total and active T-lymphocytes, and alpha-Fetoprotein are measured in 30 patients with histologically documented hepatoma.
The peripheral lymphocyte counts, total and active T-lymphocyte counts, and DNCB reaction did not appear to show a good correlation between them, whereas the above mentioned tests and counts were markedly depressed.
The results were summarized as follows;
1) The response to DNCB skin test among 20 patients in the hepatoma was depressed, and the results of the DNCB test showed that 12 out of 20 had weak or energy (60%).
2) The results of PPD skin test of 18 patients in the hepatoma showed that 12 out of 18 had negative reaction, and 6 had positive reaction.
3) The mean of peripheral lymphocytes in 30 patients with hepatoma were 1, 586¡¾967. 9/
mm3 at preoperative check, 1, 196 785.3/mm3 after operation.
4) The mean of total T-lymphocyte counts in 29 patients with hepatoma were 678¡¾429.3/
mm 3 at preoperative check, and 580¡¾363.8/mm3 after operation.
5) The mean of active T-lymphocyte counts in 27 patients with hepatoma were 373¡¾224.8/
mm3 at preoperative check, and 328¡¾184.3/mm3 after operation.
6) Alpha-Fetoprotein(AFP) were positive in 66.6% of the hepatoma patients.
